The head is investment cast with 440 stainless steel, then bead-blasted for a quality satin finish. The knife-edge is hand applied by skilled artisans, and is knife-sharp. The edge is geometrically patterned after the classic Samurai sword, which is one of the reasons the edge stays so sharp for so long.

The handle is made from laminated Baltic birch, which is known for its strength and durability. The laminate design was chosen because a conventional straight grain handle might be prone to cracking along grain lines given the ergonomic curvature of the handle.

The axe head is hung on the handle using two methods of attachment: a stainless steel set-screw to hold the handle in the head and a stainless steel roll pin that “locks” the head to the handle. This roll-pin feature is also found on competition axes to prevent the axe head from flying off the handle during competition.
